JOB DESCRIPTION

MERC Aerospace is seeking a Risk Manager to support a federal government customer. Areas of support will include Risk, Opportunity, and Issue assessments of one-of-a-kind space flight systems development. The successful candidate will assist Project Management with understanding, tracking, and mitigating technical, cost, schedule, and resource related risks associated with systems design, manufacturing, test, launch and operations.

Job Description:

  • Understand the technical interactions of space flight hardware development, to include concepts associated with requirements development, hardware and software design, system integration and test
  • Partner with the Project Managers and all Stakeholders including Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), outside vendors, Government and contractor team members to understand and capture technical, schedule and cost related concerns
  • Facilitate technical exchanges with stakeholders to discuss, quantify, and capture program risks
  • Apply sound judgment in facilitation and evaluation of risks and mitigation strategies
  • Think independently and strategically about potential downstream mission impacts
  • Respectfully, yet effectively challenge the identification and acceptance of risks to ensure concepts are well thought out and logically documented
  • Perform gap assessments of proposed risk mitigation strategies and influence customers towards holistic remediation strategies that address the root-cause issue(s)
  • Translate technical jargon into simple concepts for concise presentation of the data

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in a STEM field of study and five (5) years or more work experience
  • Work experience of more than ten (10) years is sufficient without a degree
  • PMP and/or Risk Management related certification are a plus, but not required
  • Knowledge of NASA Risk Management requirements, NASA/SP-2011-3422, and Goddard Space Flight Center Guideline for Performing Risk Assessments, GSFC-HDBK-8005, is a plus, but not required
